Quote of the Day
I say quote of the day like there'll be a quote of the day tomorrow as well or maybe there was one yesterday when there probably won't be and there definitely wasn't but it's my blog and I can be like that if I want to. That wasn't the quote. This is...
"Suddenly I'm becoming a part of your past, I'm losing you and it's effortless."
It's from a really bad song on the radio by some really awful wish-I-was-in-Nickelback kind of band but isolated I like it.
Sometimes being taken out of context is a good thing.

Horoscopic Goodness
This is my mini-horoscope for tomorrow.
"You've gained more than you've lost. Maintain that perspective today and be proud."
I like it.
Here's what Magic8Ball had to say about it...
"As I see it, yes."
There you go.

Ah...Memories...
You Got Something to Say?!
Well, as of today, apparently you can't. Because somehow I screwed up the comment leaving and viewing when I changed the skin. Grrr. And I can't figure it out. And I don't have any more time today to try so for now...no comments. Not that there were tonnes to begin with. I will try to get it figured out as soon as I can though. :-)
Look what i found!

I was surfing the net, checking out pics of the Lederhosen as I so often do (who doesn't love a little lederhosen now and then?) and what did I find? A picture that looks suspiciously like my dear friend Tom. Spooky...
If you're interested in learning more about the proud history of the Lederhosen (otherwise known as the sexiest male attire of all time) check this out...
It Puts the Lotion On It's Skin...
As you may have noticed by the crazy, seizure inducing pink, I've got a new skin on my blog. I had to stalk, capture and kill several other blogs in order to get enough pretty pink skin to cover my own so I hope you appreciate it. Tee hee. My goal is to eventually create a super sexy skin of my own but I've already wasted way too much time today on this as it is so this one will have to do for now. Personally I love it. But I don't get out much. :-) Kidding. Well, not really. I don't get out much but I think that even if I did I'd still dig it. Okay bye!

Weird Moods...
I wish somedays that I weren't so easily affected by other people's moods. Or actions. Wouldn't it be great to be one of those people unaffected by life? Not that I really know any. But I'm sure they're out there! I find working as a waitress to be particularly bad for this phenomenon. Not only am I affected by my friends, lovers, co-workers, family, etc, I'm also thrown by random strangers I've never seen before and may never see again. It's a strange thing. Even when I'm in a great mood some miserable bastard can come into my section and derail my happy train with a single snide remark. Or a neighbour for that matter. I'm really tired of it. I'm going to work on that. My new goal is to be less involved with the world. And more involved with my dog. She's always happy. And today she smells sweet because yesterday I gave her a bath. She's so soft and fluffy I could just squish her right up. I will hug her and squeeze her and call her George.
I've been on this quest recently to make some new friends. Not with the view of losing any of my old ones, but just so I can get out and about a bit more. Over the last year I've become way too introverted for my own liking. Not so good all the alone time in my head. And suddenly I find myself with possibilities again. It's nice. The celebratory dancing and cocktails last week were fantastic. I'm still pleased (to say the least) about being accepted into my Master's program but I'm starting to feel a little sad about leaving the island. Vancouver's not so far away but how often do the friends I have there ever make it over here? Not so often. Once I go, when will I see my new friends (and my sweet, sweet old ones)? I wish I could build a teleporter so I could come and go without all the pesky travel time. :-) I could teleport to work! Mind you, I generally like the driving. Especially in the summer when the Malahat is all green and leafy with the sun shining through and the bright blue sky. That's the shit.
I have a sore throat. I hope I'm not getting sick again. Bring on the oj.

Fun!

Okay, so I stole this picture from someone's profile on Consumating but I really liked it! And now I see that you can't even read it because it's too small and I can't get the bigger version because I can't remember where it actually came from. Damn! But the thing is that it's a sign for a mexican restaurant and in the red arrow along the bottom it says "now located inside the car wash" or something like that. Who doesn't like mexican food in the carwash?! I'm all for it. Yum!

Oh God...
There seems to be a rash (and an itchy one at that) of these things going around right now and I'm always a sucker for a survey so here you go. Woo hoo! Try to contain yourselves.
1. What time did you get up this morning?
5am my friends. That's right. 5 fucking am. But it's okay, I like mornings. I'm sick like that.
2. Diamonds or pearls?
I so want to say pearls. The Senor knows why. But it just doesn't seem appropriate so I'm gonna have to go with diamonds. They're just so damn sparkly. I'm all about the sparkle.
3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
It may have been V for Vendetta which might have been good but I'll never know because I fell asleep. Ah, good times.
4. What is your favourite TV show?
Dead Like Me. Sadly, it doesn't actually exist anymore. Thank god for my short term memory loss and dvd tv!
5. What do you usually have for breakfast?
A large steeped tea with 2 sugars, 1 milk. Tim Horton's of course. There's nothing better than drive thru at 5:30 in the morning.
6. Favourite cuisine?
Mexican! Or the sushi. Mmm...sushi. And the german cooking has grown on me as well. It's pretty damn good. Who knew?
7. What is your middle name?
Brandy. Shut up.
8. What is your favourite cd at the moment?
Um, hard to say...I have James Blunt in my car at the moment, but I'm getting a little burnt out on songs about heartache and all that. I need some happy music. I'm also pretty partial to this mixed cd a friend made me awhile ago. It has this crazy song on it that I can't remember the name of because I can't find the sleeve he put in with it but it goes "fire in the disco...fire in the taco bell!" and it cracks me up everytime. He also put Rock Lobster by the B52s on there which makes me happy and scares my dog. Okay, it was me singing along to it that scared the dog but why quibble?
9. What kind of car do you drive?
Little red Chevy Aveo named Lola. And yes, I do sing to it. Lo-la. L.O.L.A. Lo-la!
10. Favourite sandwich?
I'm partial to the...oh crap. What is it? Monte Christo! But that's a fad sandwich. My all-time favourite is ham and cheese with crisp lettuce and a just butter. Mmm. I'm also a fan of the peanut butter and green apple sandwiches my grandma used to make me. She'd roll out the bread with a rolling pin, cut the crusts off, spread the peanut butter and then put in some thinly sliced granny smith apple and roll the whole thing up burrito style and stick a fuzzy toothpick (the cocktail kind with the fuzzies on the end) through it to hold it together. It was an artform more than a mere sandwich.
12. Favourite item of clothing?
That would have to be the green skirt with the sparkly bits that I picked up in San Francisco. I hate it when people say "picked up" like that. Like I was walking down the street and saw this cute skirt hanging around and I was like, "hey, how you doin'?" Whatever. It's my favourite and I got it in San Francisco so it has the double distinction of being super cute and reminding me of a mostly fun trip.
13. If you could go anywhere on holiday?
Anywhere? I'm such a loser about these questions. Okay, New York to see Virve, London to see Shae, or Italy to see Italy. The last one changes daily. Yesterday it was Mexico for ruins, beaches, tequila and great music. Tomorrow, who knows?
14. What colour is your bathroom? White. It's a rental.
15. Favourite brand of clothing?
I don't think I really have one. If I had heaps of money maybe Gaultier. But I'd rather find a local designer who made really cool stuff and support them. I'm partial to Smoking Lily in Victoria but I'm poor so I only have the one bag that I bought as a present to myself when I got my job at the college and have now run into the ground (the bag, not the job). The rest of the time I just buy whatever it is that's cute-ish that I can actually afford.
16. Where would you retire to?
I don't really know. Somewhere warm, but not too hot. With blue skies and green grass and a beach. And cliffs. I like cliffs. And a little cottage (but the open sort of west coast style - not the english coutryside) with a big, bright studio and a loft bedroom and an apple tree. Who doesn't love an apple tree? Obviously this is a retirement thing so I'm thinking relaxation.
17. What was your most memorable birthday?
I think it was my 25th...I was in Halifax and all of my friends from school and my different jobs and whatnot actually showed up so there were about 25-30 people over the course of the night. We started at a Bar and Grill where I drank numerous Long Island Iced Teas and there were a dozen red roses delivered in the middle of dinner from a friend who was far away. Then we went to the Split Crow for power hour ($1.25 beers) where the entire bar sang happy birthday to me and the waiter kept loading glasses into my beer helmet (it was a gift). Then we ended the night at the Marquee Club for retro night where I drank double rum and cokes and danced the night away until I reached the point where I threw up in the bathroom and when asked afterward how I was feeling I replied, "not so bad, if only I could get my eyes to focus" and they took me home. It was magical.
18. Favourite sport to watch?
I don't like sports on tv so much but I've always been a fan of the live hockey game. It's good times.
19. Furthest place you are sending this?
I'm not actually sending it but people in Japan and England will be reading it. Dammit. They'd better be!
20. Who do you least expect to send this back to you?
Elvis. He never replies to these things. Jerk.
21. Person you expect to send it back first?
Obviously Johnny Depp. He's quite devoted.
22. Favourite saying?
I currently say "Right you are Ken!" quite alot because of that damned MXC but it's really starting to annoy me. I can only imagine how the other people feel. Yikes.
23. When is your birthday? October 4th.
24. Are you a morning or a night person? Both. I'm ridiculously perky in the morning, but I like being out and having fun at night.
25. What is your shoe size? 9
26. Pets?
Sweet, sweet Lilo the Doglet of Doom.
27. What did you want to be when you were little?
A fireman, a fashion designer or a model. I was easily confused.
28. How are you today?
I'm a little off today. Tired mostly and a little sad but then also still happy about the grad school thing. It's nice to finally have things coming together. A little closure in some areas and new beginnings in other. It's good overall I'm just a little emotionally drained.
29. What is your favourite sweet?
I don't know if it's really considered a sweet but I really like Chai tea. Although I had some coconut gelato last night that could easily become addictive. I also really like the Almond Rocha but I'm steering clear of that. It's a gateway sweet.
30. What is your favourite flower?
I think daisies. They're just so damn happy. But I also like wild flowers. And sweet peas. Ooo...sunflowers. The really big ones. They're fantastic.
31. What is a day on the calendar you are looking forward to?
At the moment I'm pretty stoked about August 1st. If all goes well I'll be moving into a new apartment with my sweet doggie of love and settling in for the next 3 years of grad school. I'm really excited. And terrified. But in a good, moving on kind of way. Yay!
32. What is your favourite colour?
I don't really know. I generally say red but I'm really liking the happy celery green kind of colour as well and I'm always partial to black. But a nice bright, happy blue is pretty good as is a warm and happy yellow. And then there's the pink. Love the pink.
1. What time did you get up this morning?
5am my friends. That's right. 5 fucking am. But it's okay, I like mornings. I'm sick like that.

Still Damn Excited!

I just got an "official" email from SFU notifying me of the commitee's recommendation for acceptance into the School of Interactivee Arts and Technology Masters Program. I'm so excited all over again! I mean before it was just some chick telling me over the phone that I was in so I mean honestly, how excited could I get (pretty damn excited in case you were wondering)? But now...woo hoo! Yay! I'm so damn excited! And then there will be a letter which is even more real than an email and then the letter from the Dean which is the actual formal acceptance notification and then I'll be able to apply for a TA position (again, not the T&A position - I've already got that covered thank you very much) and then there'll be the grad school package (minds out of the gutter!) and then enrollment and blah, blah, blah! I'm so excited! Did I mention that already? Because I am. :-)Yay!
And it's great timing because tonight I'm going out for a congratulatory dinner with some of my professors from Malaspina and that's damn exciting too! Yay! It's really nice that they want to have this dinner tonight. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Especially since I wouldn't have gotten this far if it weren't for their influence. It was one of my design professors that bullied me into applying to NSCAD for the honour program (and paid for the shipping and application fees as well), and it was my current boss at the college who gave me the push I needed to apply for this masters degree program and not to mention gave me the job that has made it possible for me to actually pay for it! And it was his wife who gave me the design contracts I've been working on with the college that are also making a dent in the looming tuition costs. Well, in theory. We'll see how that goes. :-) I'm not so good with the money. But anyway, it just makes me really happy to have this group of people who have so much faith in my braininess and capabilities and have been so willing to help me to get where I want to be. I'm feeling so squishy right now. I have to go hug my dog. I know that grad school is something that tonnes of people do all the time, but for me it seems like a really big deal. I don't know why.
Okay bye!
*** The girl in my previous post with the blue-ish sweater on actually has TWO masters degrees already! One in some weird science-y subject (something to do with parasites I think) and one in forensics! She's so cool. I want a masters in forensics! Grrr. Gimmme!

Fun!

I had a great night on Friday. So great. Wicked actually. After searching and searching (slight exaggeration there) I finally found someone who was not only willing to come out and celebrate my super happy fun time news (yay grad school!) but actually able! Woo hoo! So my friend Jess and I headed out to the Bent Mast to meet up with some really, really awesome friends of hers where we commenced the drinking! There were beers. Many beers. And a couple of caesars. Mmm...spicy. And then a whole group of us mosied on over to the Clubhouse (is that really the name? did I make that up? I think it's the name...) and shook our booties like we'd never shaken them before (that's not true my booty has been shaken many a time). And it was awesome! I can't even remember the last time I went dancing all night! It was so, so great. That's pretty much all I have to say. That and one last woo hoo! :-)

Lalalalalala! Laaaaa! La!
I'm just in a really good mood and no one is answering their phones and I'm just in a really good mood. Did I say that already? This is probably why no one is answering their phone. Grrr. I should've gone to the hockey game with the kitchen monkeys. Stupid kitchen monkeys. Generally I refer to them as the kitchen bitches but I'm in a really good mood today. :-)
And this is why.
1. It's sunny.
2. I got into grad school.
3. I have the cutest dog in the universe.
4. I love my toes. It's flip flop time so this is an important thing.
5. I just signed up for swimming lessons. Yes, I can already swim. They're lessons for people who can already swim but look like retards doing it. That would be me. But maybe that's not why I'm in a really good mood. Maybe I signed up because I was in a really good mood. Hard to say. Don't really care.
6. I'm finally going to be leaving the city of totems. If that's not enough to perk me up, I don't know what is.
7. I got into grad school. Oh sorry, did I mention that one already? That's because I'm so damn happy about it it needed to be said twice! The news so nice it had to be told twice.
8. I'm actually running out of things now. Someone bought me a chai latte today. That was good.
9. I like grapes. And I have some in the fridge. I think I'll eat them now.
10. I'm going to have mexican chicken casserole thingy for dinner tonight and tomorrow I'll be able to heat the leftovers up in my new microwave and enjoy it a second time. I love my new microwave. It's silver.

I'm In!
Oh yeah. That's right. That's the way, uh-huh uh-huh we like it...I'm so in! And by in, I don't mean hip and trendy (although I am nothing if not hip) I mean I finally got accepted to my program at SFU! Sweet! I've been crazy excited all day! All day! Except for a brief period around 3ish where I crashed. I'm a little tired today. But I'm a tired grad student!!!! Yay! Woo hoo! So excited! And people were just throwing money at me today at work because I was just so retarded. Apparently people like retarded substantially more than they like friendly and polite. Which actually works out pretty well for me! SO yays all around! And now I must go and watch my dvd set of Dead Like Me (season 2) that I bought myself as a "yay you got into grad school" prezzie. Did I mention I'm excited?
